How to make your website stand out in the crowd ?
I can see what most website owners are thinking when you think about "standing out" in the crowd.
Of course, it's obvious.
Redesign your site to make it look like it's out of this world.
Spend a couple of hundreds to create a Flash that's going to knock the socks off your visitors.
Oh wow. That should really turn your business around. All your friends have been telling you how boring your website looks. Your buddies have been suggesting you to get something that's going to capture attention immediately when you enter the site.
BAM !!! Make it stand out.
WRONG !
Sorry but your buddies are all wrong.
It's true you can make your website stand out visually by shelling out some serious Benjamins, but it's not going to make a difference in your bottomline.
In fact, a flashy eye-catching website can reduce the usability of the site and bring your profit down.
Make your site professional, not Flashy.
You don't think Google, eBay, Youtube, Facebook, Craigslist, RyanAir, Plenty of Fish and many other sites that generate millions (if not billions) would have redesigned their sites?
Shouldn't Facebook put some big Flash on their site?
You might say "Well they are already big sites. So they don't need to impress people with their design."
There are two things that these sites did to stand out from all their competitors.
1. They have a lot of useful content.
2. They have a lot of visiblity online through search engines and other forms of marketing.
So if you want to stand out from the crowd focus on the content and marketing, NOT the visual design.
